Qualifying has concluded at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit in Argentina, the second round of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship. Despite a fall on Friday, Aron Canet is ready to fight, starting from the fourth row.
After a heavy crash during Friday’s practice, Aron Canet was back on track on Saturday. Despite some pain in his shoulder, he showed strong pace in Free Practice 2, finishing in third place. Qualifying proved to be more challenging than expected, and the Spanish rider couldn’t put together the perfect lap. However, he still secured a Top 10 finish with a time of 1’41.314.
In his second GP with the Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team, Barry Baltus confirmed the positive sensations from Thailand. He finished the second Free Practice session in second place, just 73 thousandths off the fastest time. However, in qualifying, two small mistakes on his time-attack laps prevented him from repeating that performance, and he ended up in P15 with a lap time of 1’41.430. Starting from the fifth row, he will still have the chance to fight for important points.
Once again, Moto2 proves to be an incredibly competitive category, with 18 riders separated by less than eight-tenths of a second. A strong race pace will be crucial, and the Fantic Racing Lino Sonego riders have shown they can be competitive.
Aron Canet:
“It wasn’t an easy day, I felt some pain in my shoulder, and the changing track conditions made it harder to find the right feeling. We missed out on a strong time attack, but the positive is that we have a good pace. We are calm – we know we can be competitive and recover positions in the race.”
Barry Baltus:
“I can’t be satisfied with this qualifying result, but it is something we can learn from. The race is tomorrow, and we will work with the team to fine-tune every detail and find the right setup. I didn’t complete a perfect lap, but we have been working well throughout the weekend, and I am confident for the race.”
Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team Manager:
“Our potential is higher than what we showed in qualifying. Baltus was fast, but two small mistakes in the fourth sector prevented him from starting further up the grid. For Aron, it wasn’t easy since he is not at 100% after yesterday’s crash. We will make a few small adjustments for him ahead of tomorrow’s race, with the goal of putting in a strong performance with both our riders.”
